Biography
THOMPSON, GORDON MAX. farmer and tourism operator; b. 24 February 1914 in North Tryon, son of Gordon Warren Thompson and Lena Lillian MacDonald; m. 12 October 1937 Doris Marie Crosby, and they had three children, Marlene, John Donald, and Ralph Crosby; United; d. 13 May 1985 in Charlottetown. Thompson, a Liberal, was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the general election of 1966 for 4th Prince. Max Thompson received his early education in the Warren Grove School, and later attended the Royal School of Cavalry in St.John's, Quebec, and the Graham School of Scientific Breeding in Kansas City, Mississippi. He farmed and operated a tourism business. Thompson was director and president of the Crapaud Creamery Company Limited and owner of the Birch Haven Farm in Victoria. He was active in the Crapaud Exhibition Association and was the first president of the Prince Edward Island Association of Exhibitions; he continued to serve in that role for 25 years. Thompson was a director of the Dairy Farmers of Canada from 1959 to I960, of the Holstein-Friesian Association of Canada from 1956 to 1958, and president of the Crapaud-Victoria Board of Trade from 1956 to 1958. He also served as director of the Maritime Board of Trade from 1956 to 1966. Thompson served on the Board of National Farm Products Marketing Council and served as chairperson of the Board of the Prince Edward Island Marketing Development Centre and the Prince Edward Island Marketing Council. He was chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Englewood Regional High School. Thompson was a member of the Victoria United Church, the True Brothers Masonic Lodge Number Eight in Crapaud, and the Crapaud Curling Club, and was a fundraising chairperson for the Canadian Heart Foundation. Max Thompson died 13 May 1985 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Doris Thompson was the daughter of H. D. Crosby.
