Biography
TANTON, WILFRED, barrister; b. 21 February 1880 in Summerside, son of William Tanton and Sophia C. Jamieson; m. 4 January 1918 Lillian Swabey Cox, and there were no children; Anglican; d. 21 April 1951 in Charlottetown. Tanton, a Conservative, was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the general election of 1923 for 1st Prince. He was defeated in the general elections of 1927 and 1931. Tanton received his education in the local school and later attended Prince of Wales College. He practised law in Alberton. Keenly interested in the affairs of his community he served as Mayor of Alberton from 1939 to 1944. From 1914 to 1917, he served as Stipendiary Magistrate to Prince County. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity of A.F. and A.M. Wilfred Tanton died 21 April 1951. Lillian Tanton. the daughter of Doctor Frank Cox of Morell, was born in 1885 and died in 1969.
