Biography
CLARK, RUSSELL CHARLES, merchant and board member; b. 22 December 1878 in Mount Stewart, son of Solomon C. Clark and Hannah Newberry; m. 14 September 1901 Marion J. McKay, and they had three children, Stirling K, William Keir*, and one unnamed (died in infancy); United; d. 15 July 1964 in Charlottetown.
Clark, a Liberal, was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in the general election of 1927 for 3rd Queens. He was re-elected in the general elections of 1935, 1939, 1943, 1947, 1951, and 1955. He was defeated in the general election of 1931. On 30 September 1930, he was appointed as a Minister without Portfolio.
Clark's son Keir served in the Legislative Assembly from 1947 to 1959 and from 1966 to 1970.
Clark attended Mount Stewart School, Prince of Wales College, and Charlottetown Business College. He was a merchant in Mount Stewart and held directorships with the Charlottetown Can Company, Charlottetown Fur Sales, Associated Shippers Incorporated, McDonald V. Rowe Woodworking Company, and Island Foods of Summerside. Russell Clark owned and operated lobster factories in Mt. Stewart and Blooming Point. He owned and operated a blueberry processing plant in Mt. Stewart. He owned a 600-acre farm, a fox ranch, and was a partner in a car dealership in Charlottetown. Russell Clark died 15 July 1964 at the Prince Edward Island Hospital.
Marion Clark, the daughter of Kenneth McKay of Mount Stewart, was born in 1877 and died in 1975.
