Biography
DRISCOLL, JAMES RUSSELL farmer and produce dealer; b. 4 November 1908 in Mount Herbert, son of Frank Driscoll and Margaret; m. first 15 August 1942 Elizabeth Cecilia MacDonald, and they had five children, Frank, Helene, Sharon, Ann Marie, and Colleen; m. secondly 31 August 1968, Mary Helen MacDonald, and she had six children: Don, Ian, Jenine, Boyd, Howard, and Leanne; Roman Catholic; d. 22 June 1975 in Charlottetown. Driscoll, a Conservative, was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in the general election of 1959 for 3rd Queens. He was re-elected in the general elections of 1962 and 1966. He was defeated in the general elections of 1955, 1970, and 1974. Driscoll chaired the Southport Village Commission. Educated in Mount Herbert, Russell Driscoll became a farmer and a produce dealer. Following his second marriage, Driscoll moved from Mt. Stewart to the Keppoch Road. The couple raised the 11 children from their previous marriages. In addition to being a member of the provincial branch of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. James Russell Driscoll died 22 June 1975 at the Charlottetown Hospital. Driscoll's cousin and godson, Frederick L. Driscoll*, was a member of the Legislative Assembly and served as a Cabinet Minister. Elizabeth Driscoll was the daughter of Hugh Laughlin MacDonald and Mary Ann MacDonald of St. Georges. Mary Helen Driscoll was the daughter of Jeanette Ann Boyd and John Angus MacDonald from Allisary (near Mt. Stewart).
